Disconnect between warnings & consumption - Raw milk

Despite numerous warnings from public health officials during the month of April about raw milk from various farms across the U.S. testing positive for the likes of Campylobacter (New York ), Listeria (Vermont), and Salmonella (Pennsylvania), people continue to believe that raw, unpasteurized milk does a body good.

The New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets.was cited as saying Saturday that residents of Cayuga County and surrounding counties are being warned not to drink or use unpasteurized raw milk sold from a Genoa farm because of possible bacteria contamination.
Raw milk sold by the Phil Stauderman Farm, 3128 Blakely Road, Genoa, may be contaminated with Campylobacter, a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, headache and muscle pain in children and young adults.
The story says that the Stauderman farm has a department permit to legally sell raw milk at the farm, according to the news release.
A routine sample taken April 16 was found to be contaminated with Campylobacter and the farm was notified of the test on April 19, the department said. The farm voluntarily suspended sales of raw milk on that date, the department said. The tests were confirmed on Friday, the department said.

Hello.I live on a farm in Maryland. We have guernseys. Because of living in MD, we are not able to sell raw milk. I know I will not change your mind, but I'd like to share something. At my farm, we have very strict rules as to milking our animals. We love our cows and they are like our family. Without them, we don't make any money. Of course we would take care of them. Its our life. I wanted to express to you that you are sending the wrong message about milk. Milk is an extremely clean product. On our farm, if a cow becomes sick and is put on antibiotics, we don't put their milk in the tank for double the amount of time that the vet prescribes us to. Our tank is bleached and cleaned each time it is emptied, and the lines and milkers are cleaned and flushed after each milking. My family drinks the milk right out of the tank on a daily basis. Now, if it wasn't safe to drink, why would I expose my family to it? I understand everyone has a right to their own opinions, but I hate seeing the industry getting a bad name. Let's face it, in this economy, we are loosing 25 cents per day per cow because of such low milk prices. All of it goes into pasteurization...not back to us. I appreciate you drinking your milk and having your 3 a day, but I just wanted to shed some light on to the other side of the story. Thanks!
