Raw seafood warning: Florida edition

Posted: August 20th, 2009 - 2:30pm by Doug Powell

As part of our search for decent seafood in Florida, Amy snapped this reminder of what is probably the most thorough food warning we’ve ever seen on a restaurant menu.

No idea whether people read these things.

Doc says:

I don't have any data to back this up, but I'm under the impression that the (vast?) majority of cases of food borne illness is caused by poor sanitation and cross-contamination (regardless of whether it's at the farm, a processor, the market, or in the kitchen), and that relatively few of the cases are caused by (intentionally) raw or undercooked foods listed on the pictured warning. For example, of the people I know there is only a couple of cases I can recall where they were sickened by undercooked food (both were oysters), compared to dozens of cases caused by bad food handling (frequently at salad bars - one case was nearly fatal).
