British holidaymakers in Turkey struck with salmonella

The British Mirror reports that hundreds of tourist may have been struck down with salmonella food poisoning and some have already been diagnosed after returning from a hotel complex in Turkey.

The tourists affected were staying at the Holiday Village Turkey in the resort of Sarigerme.

Andrew Morton, of the Manchester law firm Pannone, who is taking action against First Choice Travel on behalf of more than 100 clients, said,

"From all reports coming out of the resort, we expect the number of cases to rise significantly over the next few days. Estimates put the figure of those affected at well over 1,000. Anyone returning to the UK from Sarigerme who has been ill should see their doctor immediately."

Last night, a spokeswoman for First Choice said "a very small proportion" of guests at the resort reported being ill and were being treated for an "airborne virus.”

Hi Amanda, me my wife and two daughters are due to arrive there on the 22nd of this month, and were just as concerned as yourself. First Choice have a legal obligation for the safety and welfare of their geusts, if the safety and welfare of the guests are put in any doubt, and you really don't want go to this resort, then they must find you an alternative resort. I myself will, to date, still be going to the holiday village as I feel that all the hype and press coverage will ensure this place will be imaculately clean by the time we arrive. If any of us as so much have a 'dicky tummy' I will be contacting the law firm Pannone, which is dealing with many people's case's. I am sure everything will be fine.Darren

Hello to all the worried people out there, it is not as close to everyone else's holiday we go on the 16th October.I have contacted First Choice today after a 15 minute wait on the telephone and here is the latest information - there have been no recent reported cases reported to First Choice, the concerns expressed are untrue they say that it is a virus at the complex starting around 3/4 weeks ago linked to a wedding party of and i quote 3,000 people.First choice tried to reassure me that travel arrangements are as normal, as a good will gesture due to the large amount of people contacting them with concerns they have put a doctor on site free of charge- i will let you come to your own conclusions from that statement.I hope this information is helpful and good luck : )

i also had concerns prior to going to the holiday village but was also told by first choice i could not change the holiday . i work in the health sector and went very equipped , or thought i had the second week of our stay both my children started to be ill with d an v on return 10th sept my daughter was taken to our gp after investigation she has had a positive result for criptosporidium which our gp has said from the swimming pool, she also had a ear infection . and as for the above first choice have got medical notes confirming this. all i can say is my family and i have 3 holidays a year and if i said to my 9 and 10 year old we was going back to the holiday village they would be petified. do you really want to take the risk , i can assure you it is a very nasty illness

HiMy name is Joanne and i actually work for First Choice as a travel agent. I have been to the Holiday Village on 1st of June this yr. I took my two small children aged 3 & 8 years old and we had a fantastic time and I am absolutely gob smacked that about the food poisoning cases as I thought it was an immaculate place to stay & beieve me I have travelled allot!!I personally ( not professionally ) think that this hotel is fantastic out of summer school holidays but during the summer months it struggles to cope with the influx of people! If you read the reviews on this hotel may june early july and september you will see that it has fantastic reviews again.I have booked this hotel for repeat customers wanting to return more times than I have any other.I had a fantastic holiday here and NOT one of us were ill at all an I believe that there may have been a problem during the summer months but personally feel that Brits do not deal with the high temperatures change in water (do not even clean teeth with there own is advied ) etc. Also if people are going to the toilets not washin hands and jumping in the pools???? As for human beings pooin in the pools it just beggers belief!!!Go with an open mind we had a fab time!
