New South Wales, Australia - this is your public health inspector

Posted: May 24th, 2009 - 10:41am by Doug Powell

Every restaurant and cafe in NSW will receive a random health inspection in the next 12 months after Government health bosses were left reeling by the results of their latest food safety crackdown.

Health and safety inspectors have issued 160 fines in four weeks. The NSW Food Authority launched a "name and shame" website in July to try to improve hygiene standards. Department officials expected to uncover kitchen nightmares but did not envisage dishing out 1000 fines to 600 businesses in 10 months.

The name-and-shame list is updated on Tuesdays and has had more than 1.5million hits since it was put on the Internet.

A PIZZA/KEBAB SHOP AT RUSE VILLAGE SHOPS IN RUSE IS OF SOME CONCERN. RECENTLY WE HAVE NOTICED A BAD SMELL COMING FROM THE SHOP AND OIL STAINS COMING OUT THE DOORWAY. WE ALSO NOTICED THE SHOP WAS CLOSED FOR 2DAYS WITH KEBAB MEAT STILL ON THE RACKS,THEN WHEN THE SHOP OPENED THE SAME MEAT WAS ON SALE. IN THE PAST PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SICK FROM EATING THE FOOD FROM THIS PLACE. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOP NEEDS TO INSPECTED AND SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

A good health inspection score can be decisive for a business like restaurants, accommodations even hotels. Now I really appreciate that cheap Bangkok accommodation, judging by the way it looked I am sure it had all the health inspection scores up to date.
