Barfing behind bars: 5 sick with E. coli at Idaho prison

Posted: December 9th, 2010 - 8:00am by Doug Powell

Five inmates at the Idaho Correctional Center, south of Boise, became sick around Dec. 1.

Associated Press reports at least two tested positive for toxin-producing E. coli.

Sarah Correll, staff epidemiologist at the Central District Health Department, said no new cases have been discovered and the inmates who were sickened are recovering.

The Idaho Correctional Center is run by Corrections Corporation of America.

Anne says:

As someone who used to work at KSP in Lansing, I am not surprised. Inmates feel they are helpless in many situations and find innovative approaches to making a statement or a difference or "getting back". If they happen to work in food services, it presents a tempting opportunity to "have the last laugh" by adulterating food, sometimes with the most disgusting substances. Reduced prices for meals for employees while working there never tempted me. THANKS BUT NO THANKS.
